A lot of you probably wonder what I do with my time here in Hawaii. So here's a little peek into my daily steps of life here in Hawaii. I know a lot of people think I'm in paradise and that I just go to the beach and drink from a coconut all day. Well, to tell you the honest truth--I don't think Hawaii is paradise, and being here makes me realize just how much I actually love Colorado. I think the beach is overrated and I'm not too fond of the ocean anyway. Also, it's pretty humid and tropical here so I can't keep up with my good hygiene for more than 5 minutes because of how much I sweat. I miss my Rocky Mountains and thin dry Colorado air. Now, it's not all bad here. The ocean really is beautiful and I love to play in the sand. There's also a lot of different things that I have seen here that we don't get in Colorado. There's so many strange fruits and trees here, not to mention tons of different animals. It's actually really great here and I would love to come back, but Colorado has my heart. With that being said, I don't get much down time anyway, and when I do get down time it's hard to go anywhere because the only free means of transportation I have is my feet, and if I get lucky I can find a free ride. Weekends are usually really free and it's when I've done the most exploring and adventuring, but it's hard to make it past a certain radius without having to spend some money. Some weekends I'll go out and find stuff to do with friends and some weekends I'll just hang out on campus and do some work or just chill out. Our weekdays are the most busy. Mondays always start out with corporate worship where every body on campus comes and does worship for an hour, it's one of my favorite parts of the week. Then we head to our Discipleship Training School(DTS) class, where we meet and hear our speaker for the week. Monday afternoon classes are specifically set for our injustice class, where we look at different social injustices around the world. So far we've learned about social injustices like; homelessness, racism, elder abuse, orphans, widows, and lots more. It's been super cool to get a heart for different people around the world, especially through Jesus' eyes. On Tuesdays we have regular class with our weekly speaker, and in the afternoon we usually have our outreach team meetings. My outreach team is going to Malaysia and Indonesia. I have one other guy on my team, Tim, and five other girls that are all great. During our team meetings we usually just spend time discussing the places we will be going and the things we will be doing, just getting a heart for the people we will be working with. I'm so pumped about my team and where we are going. Wednesdays are usually pretty simple and we just have regular class in the morning and we usually get the last bit of the afternoon off. Thursdays we typically just have regular class in the morning and afternoon, sometimes we get the afternoon off. Fridays are super fun, because that's our media day where we learn about photography and videography and all sorts of media that we can use in the missions field. It may seem like we have a lot of free time after class but every day Monday through Friday we have work duty from three to five, so that always takes a chunk of time from us. A work duty is assigned to every student on campus and basically it's just how we play a part in serving the campus. My specific work duty is to do little construction projects all over the campus, it's pretty hard work actually, but it's nice because it's my daily exercise. Then right after work duty I head to dinner and by the end of dinner the sun has set, so there's not much time to do anything super exciting. I normally just stay on base at night and do some of the activities they have set up here, or I'll go to the prayer room and do work. Occasionally, I'll walk to McDonalds with my friends to get some 77 cent ice cream cones. Explaining all of this might seem like what I'm doing here is super boring, but I want to let you know that this is a perfect setting for me. I study Jesus and photography/film every day and am constantly with awesome people. I could do this same thing in Colorado and be just as happy. I love what I'm doing and I think everyone should have the chance to do it in heir life time. I have grown so much in the 7 weeks that I've been here and I'm so thankful for what the Lord is doing in my life. Well there you have it. I hope I destroyed any false ideas of me being on vacation, because what I'm doing here is serious work. I definitely didn't come here for the beach and delicious tropical fruit. I came here to serve Gods kingdom, and it may sound rediculous but there is no job more serious than that.
